Learn To Be Positive (Sharing my secret on how I stay positive!)

This post has been on my head for some time now, I kept having ideas on writing it till a point where it will come 'saying hi' to me every now and then. So, I figured that okay I gotta quickly pen (digitally) this down so I can cross it off my to-do-list and it will stop "calling" me all the time while I'm doing my other work.

I'm not sure if you read a book in high school before, it's called the Chicken Soup or in Chinese 心灵鸡汤. I vaguely remember what is it about, but I do recall that the book series are stories that touch our hearts. I remember going to the school library to read those books and I would feel comforted in some way. Well things kinda changed over the years, I found another way to make me feel comforted and it's actually through listening songs.

If you know me personally, then you would know I'm a singing maniac. I love singing and love listening to songs. Some songs are capable of making me feel calmed and motivated at the same time, just giving me a lot of positive vibes you know. When I first had this blog idea in my head, it was about sharing a few songs that are really positive and love-sharing. Maybe I'll add some other points beside the songs too, we'll see how this goes.

There are different ways to try to be positive. You might speak to your friends, family or partner to get some positive vibes. But I believe there are times, when you're alone and then some negative thoughts might appear in your head again. So what do you do then? My best advice, and it has been proven to be working fine for me- is to listen to songs. I'm not sure whether it works for you as well, but you can always try and see what is the result right?

Here in this post, I want to share with you a song that I think is really meaningful and beautiful. I'll give some descriptions and lyrics below, but really, I think you should just listen it on your own to absorb and digest the positivism in you too.

You know during new year, we always like to wish people with abundance on this auspicious occasion. But we shouldn't only remember this on occasions like new year or Christmas. I wish that people around me are motivated to be successful (in your own definition, doesn't necessarily mean a great career or wealth, could be anything!) all the time. Let there be lesser self-doubts and more self-convincing and self-loving moments. I know it's not easy to stay confident in the society today because negative words and criticism are everywhere. Especially in the prime age of Social Media, so many people are trying to bring people down and say hurtful words without thinking about the implications.

With all these on-going, yet I still urge you to find, listen and hold on to your inner voice.

May you take no effort in your being generous
Sharing what you can, nothing more nothing less

You know the saying, "giving is better than receiving"? I know it's not a human nature to give instead of taking, but can you imagine a world or a society where everyone is thinking about 'take, take, take' and no one's giving back? I believe that what goes around comes around, if you make a positive impact, one day something positive happens back to you. Of course I'm not asking to you give with the pure mindset/intention that you want to get back something for sure. When I refer to giving, it could be anything, for example, you can give compliments, moral support, share knowledge and etc.

One experience I want to share is that- there was this time where I was queuing up to buy McD ice-cream, the queue was pretty long... And everyone was in sort of a less-patient mode because who likes to wait right? Now think about this, imagine what we need to do is wait (while playing with our phones maybe), make order, pay then walk away while enjoying our desserts. But what about the person who is working? She must have been so exhausted with making ice-cream non stop! and the queue behind is not getting any shorter... So when it was my turn, so happened I saw that she wore really nice makeup (she is a young Malay girl). And I just couldn't help but complimented her. "Wow your makeup is really pretty, I really like it! And you have really pretty eyes." Almost instantly, I could see her face which was stressed up earlier changed and glowed up. Huge smile could be seen on her face. Blushing away, she then said thank you (very shyly haha!) But I knew at that moment, she really genuinely felt happy. Amidst a busy work day serving that many customers, who would have thought that she would receive a compliment like that. Well for me, I was just stating the fact, her makeup was really pretty and her eyes were really nice. But for her, it could something that made her day.

When was the last time you gave something (could be tangible or intangible)? And I wonder if that move sparked any positive emotions in you?

May you know the meaning of the word happiness
May you always lead from the beating in your chest

Happiness, something that everyone is looking for. Some find it, some don't. There is no right or wrong because it's something that is so subjective. I myself is also constantly looking and appreciating it. People around me always ask me: "why are you always so energetic? why do you sound so active and positive all the time?" I don't really have an answer actually, it's just how I am. Have I already achieved happiness? Nooo la, where got such thing eh?

My best answer if I think really hard now is that you must be able to count your blessings. If you keep comparing yourself with others, especially with people who have more possessions than you; then you will always see yourself lacking here and lacking there; how can you be happy with this mindset. The fact that you cannot make peace and accept yourself as who you are is a big factor why you cannot be happy.

Again, everyone's definition of happiness is different. I hope you keep searching for yours until you find it, then treasure it dearly.

May you get to rest, may you catch your breath

Phew, finally it's time to wrap up the last point. don't forget to get the rest you need. I'm not just referring about getting enough sleep; Just like your body, your mind also needs regular rest. It's okay to pause or go slower when you feel like things could be overwhelming. There is a Chinese saying that "To rest is for a longer journey that we are going to take". So don't be afraid to take a break, you will bounce back even stronger after that!

We don't deserve Jason Mraz at all 😢 His music has always been such a sweet and pleasant gift.

What if I went on a cruise? 💭 like on SuperStar Gemini

I recently wrote a piece to participate in a contest, wrote it in less than 2 days (that is after working hours), figured I shouldn't waste it- so here goes:

"tell us why you think you need to go on a cruise holiday, and what you feel would make the trip a memorable one."

On one fine night, I was driving nearby Weld Quay in Penang and cannot help but to be attracted by a building lighted up in purple lights along the Penang Port. I looked up and gazed upon it for a few seconds, to realize that it wasn’t a building. It was a cruise ship! I was thinking in my head, “oh my, what a gorgeous cruise ship!”. It was at that moment, I knew that I wanted to go on a cruise holiday.

This will be the first time ever for me to step into a cruise ship. I can already foresee the excitement in me when I look at all the facilities and the sophisticated designs on board. Before, I have only heard all kinds of entertainment that guests get to enjoy on a cruise ship. Now, I am ready to see them with my own eyes and experience them first hand.

First thing first, a dip in the outdoor pool is a must. Swimming in the pool and sipping some cocktails while sailing in the middle of the ocean is what I imagine in my head as I am writing this. The thought of swimming on a cruise ship fascinates me and reminds me of the scene from Life of Pi, where the waters are as if magical and even sparkle as the stars light up the night.

Of course, I would not miss the entertainment on board. I will make sure that I catch a live stage show at the Stardust Lounge, am really looking forward to witnessing performance of either Asia’s hottest bands or world-famous illusionist. I also heard that professional dance troupes often perform on board. It must be glamorous as hell and Burlesque scene is now being cued.

A karaoke-fan like me would steal a moment and ‘perform’ in the KTV Observation Lounge. I might even dress up as if I am an artiste and sing to Kelly Clarkson’s "A moment like this". After all these fun activities, how about a relaxation session at the spa to unwind and recharge? How luxurious it is to have the masseurs massaging me while the cruise is sailing!

Next up, what would make it a perfect and memorable cruise trip is a proper dinner serving me some quality steak cooked to medium rare, and a glass of wine to complete the meal. Not only that, I would love to try other cuisines prepared by award-winning chefs as well.

I certainly will not let any second of this memorable and lavish trip slip away. Batteries and memory card will be ready so I can record the whole journey and replay it over and over again. My dear camera #CanonM10, are you ready to go on this SuperStar Gemini cruise trip with me?

Dear Daddy, Happy Father's Day!

When I was small, and Christmas trees are tall… (a song that I’ve always enjoyed singing with my dad)

The story today is all about my dad, my super daddy.

I’m pretty sure he’ll be surprised with the topic today, hi daddy, I know you’ll be one of the first to read this blog post. (My dad is my no. 1 fan when it comes to my blog!)

I know it is no use to celebrate Father’s Day one day out of the entire year. However, I would like to take some time and express some of my feelings. I’ve always had the concept that there’s no use to post all those cheesy messages like “Happy Birthday to you dad/mom” on social media unless, well if they are a social media user. Plus, my parents are not exactly fond of having all these Facebook accounts and stuff. But, my dad reads my blog, so here goes.

Recently, our family went to Taiwan for a family trip together. Words cannot express how happy I was to be reunited with my family. Me being the ‘family photographer’, I was holding the camera all the time and taking pictures of everyone. Before going, I was packing my luggage and hesitated if I wanted to bring the tripod stand. If I bring, then we could take more family pictures together without needing another person to help us. But, it’s quite bulky and certainly wouldn’t fit my backpack or handbag. But I brought it anyway. My dad is not a techy person, and is one of the “best” photographers. (We still laugh about the old film pictures taken by him with fingers in the shot!) Even though he wasn’t the person to take pictures for us, but he was the one who carried the tripod stand all the time. Without any complain or hesitation, he would ask me if the tripod is needed and took it with him if I said yes whenever we leave the car. It was after few times that I noticed my dad’s back, suddenly I felt so touched and just stopped and looked at him. This is my dad, who would do anything he could for us.

When I was younger, I went a school which was not nearby my house. So my dad had to send me to my auntie’s house every Sunday night. Being the careless one, I forgot to bring one of my bag which contained all my text books. Bear in mind, I live in Bayan Lepas area and my auntie’s house is in Georgetown. He was mad, yes he was. It was already about 11pm, and he went all the way back to get the bag and sent it to me. I think I was already asleep when he came to drop off the bag. I realised that it wasn’t important for my dad to drive any luxurious car, but what mattered was he could drive me wherever and whenever I needed it.

Basically my dad had to fetch me every day for training when I was a gymnast. He had to put everything down and send me to the gym everyday. Sometimes when the training was supposed to end at 10, it eventually ended at 10:30 or wayyyy later. All he did was just to wait patiently. Each time, I come out of the gym worrying that he would be angry at me because he had to wait for so long. But, never once had he said anything like that to me, all he said was “Wa, today train till so late. Are you tired? Hungry?”

I still remember when I went for tuition on Saturday nights, those are usually the nights whereby Manchester United (MU) matches were on. He would go to the nearby mamak, and I’ll meet him when I’m done with tuition. Spending some time with my dad at the mamak was something so unique and I can still remember vividly now. Well, now he watches at home. Sometimes I would join him and watch together in the living room. But since I’m far away from home now, I seldom have this kind of chance. Whenever I come back, it’s always a rush trip. How I wish we could have more sessions like that.

Almost on a daily basis, he would ask why haven’t dajie or erjie called back. I’m sure he asks about me as well since I am the one far away now. LOL but the funny thing is whenever I call back, he will talk to me for like 5 minutes then pass the phone to my mom. I would complain and say “daddy you asked me to call back but you keep pushing me to mummy. Mana boleh macam ni?” Then he laughed and said “You have more things to talk to mummy ma, what’s important is that I hear your voice and hear that you’re okay”.

I really wished I have more time to write this post. If I continue, I could write more and more. Sadly, I don’t have that much time. This post was in quite a rush, but thankfully in time for this Father’s Day.

I would like to take this opportunity and just say.

“Love you, daddy!”

Thank you daddy for all your love (and for carrying the tripod stand hehe)

Btw, I still hold my dad’s hand when we go out together, and I plan to do this till forever.

8D7N in Taiwan- Episode 2 (Summit Resort 新社庄园 - Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village九族文化村)

Day 2 Taichung City 台中市 - Nantou County 南投

Day 2! Do you know what the most important thing in a day is? It’s to …… EAT! Breakfast is very very important. Thanks to our driver who brought us here, we had a very delicious and filling breakfast. The shop might not look like anything special, but it’s actually a popular breakfast place for the locals, you can see many queuing to dabao or waiting for table.

You will need to grab the ready-made food first (they are all placed along the queue) and pay at the counter. At the same time, you can order other things that require cooking. RECOMMENDED, you guys can try to have breakfast here.

After filling out stomachs, we headed straight for the Summit Resort 新社庄园. I really like this place because of how green and laid-back it is. Every corner is a different scenery that is picture perfect. I think it is perfect for a weekend trip when you need to wind down and catch some fresh air.

For your information, the entrance ticket is NTD250 per person. The ticket is also inclusive of NTD100 vouchers that can be used here. However, do note that NOT all the shops here accept the voucher (they have café, restaurant, souvenir shops and etc). Make sure you check the terms & conditions behind the ticket first. We end up using the vouchers for some postcards and coffee/drinks.

Do you know what I mean now? This place just have the chilling vibes, with all those trees and flowers going on, it's sorta like I'm in Switzerland or New Zealand.

My sisters always make me laugh like this, 没有形象了啦, but I love how I can always act like myself around them.

We spotted a group of youths, I think they were 3 pairs of couples who were having the time of their lives. They were laughing and helping each other to take couple photos. LOL, they even brought the bubble guns to get some bubbles for the photo effects (smart!). What I’m trying to point out here is that people can relax and have a great time here, it seems like everyone had their “Happy Mode” on.

I quickly took the opportunity and asked my sister to take photos too because their bubbles were flying up here. Was a lil sad we didn't succeed, it was so difficult capture the bubbles in the pic.

I didn't expect this beautiful corner here to be the washroom, look how cute the little huts are!

We spent two vouchers here for the drinks. You can only use one voucher at a time, so we needed to top up for the drinks.If I didn't remember wrongly, the drinks were NTD 160 each, so we had to top up NTD120 after using the 2xNTD100 vouchers.

The coffee and breakfast have been fully digested after visiting Summit Resort, so it was time for lunch again. We went to 李仔哥爌肉饭 for lunch. If you like what you are seeing, you could try it as it will be along the way to 九族文化村.

Then we headed for Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village 九族文化村.

We started off by taking the Sun Moon Lake cable car, the experience was rather similar with Langkawi's.

Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village 九族文化村is a very interesting place because it introduced me to many of the tribes in Taiwan. I think it's really important for these information/knowledge to be conveyed to the next generation or oven the outside world. Thumbs up! Besides, it is also a theme park, check out their website for more information on the other areas that we didn't cover.

"Formosa Aboriginal Cultural Village has the largest outdoor museum in Taiwan dedicated to displaying the traditional homes and architecture of Taiwanese nine principal aborigine tribes (Nine, 2017)."

The next part is also one of my favourite moments from Taiwan, it was my first time seeing so much cherry blossom in real life. That is why March is really a good month to visit Taiwan. You are still able to see many of the cherry blossoms even on the roadside.

There are actually tonnes of other areas that we didn't manage to visit due to time constraint. So my advice to you is to allocate about 1 day here to fully experience the whole village. They even have some sort of theme park here for adults and children. The following pictures might look a bit dull because it started to rain already, with the cloudy sky I couldn't take much pictures.

Would love to try this but we didn't have enough time =( Don't worry about getting wet as they provide a full-body dryer for you.
